"SKIP" SMITH is Associate Professor Emeritus of Aerospace Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, where he has taught aircraft design, performance and aerodynamics for 30 years. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in aeronautical enginering from Penn State, and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. An instrument-rated commercial pilot and flight instructor, he has been actively flying for over 45 years.
