Hugh A Dempsey Hugh Dempsey is the author of many books on western Canadian history, but is perhaps best known for his biographies of the First Nations people, including books on Crowfoot, Big Bear, Red Crow, and Charcoal. He is a recipient of the Order of Canada,has an honorary doctorate from the university of Calgary, and is an honorary chief of the Blood tribe.
