Patten is assistant professor of practice and associate director of the master's program in geographic information systems technology at the School of Geography and Development at the University of Arizona. She specializes inland-use analysis and scenario modeling, GIS, land-use conflict, and international planning. Her research includes understanding the connection between land use and economic growth, the impacts to growth and land use suitability after regional and local events occur, and how innovative industries affect land use suitability and future growth patterns.
