Ishaq Imruh BakariIshaq Imruh Bakari is a film-maker and writer. Born in Basseterre, St. Kitts, he has lived since the 1960s in the UK and in East Africa. His many film credits include Riots and Rumours of Riots, Street Warriors, The Mark of the Hand, Blue Notes and Eiled Voices and African Tales. Between 1999 and 2004 he was Festival Director for the Zanzibar International Film Festival. His books include African Experiences of Cinema (with Mbye Cham) and three poetry collections – Sounds & Echoes (Karnak House), Secret Lives (Bogle L’Ouverture) and Without Passport or Apology (Smokestack). In 2012 he represented St. Kitts & Nevis at the Southbank Centre’s Poetry Parnassus as part of the Cultural Olympiad. He currently teaches Film Studies at the University of Winchester.
