Ismini PellsIsmini Pells obtained her PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2014. Her doctoral thesis examined the religious and political thought and military career of Philip Skippon - commander of the infantry in the New Model Army. She is currently workingon turning her thesis into a monograph, which will be the first dedicated biography of Skippon. She has already published a study of Skippon’s annotations in his personal Bible, as ‘Scriptural Truths? Calvinist Internationalism and Military Professionalism in the Bible of Philip Skippon’ in Writing the lives of people and things, AD 500-1700 by (ed.) R.F.W. Smith and G. Watson (Ashgate, Farnham: 2016). Ismini is currently an Associate Research Fellow in the Centre for Medical History at the University of Exeter, where she is working on the project ‘The Medical World of Early Modern England, Ireland and Wales, c. 1500-1715’, which has been funded by the Wellcome Trust. She is particularly interested in the medical developments that resulted from the military events of the 17th century and the political roles and networks of medical practitioners during and after the civil war.
