He battled his way through life with grit in his teeth and steel in his eye, working in jobs such as a lightbulb packer, a croupier, a waiter in a little chef, a remova man, an entertainments manager, a garage door fabricator, a hotel handy-man, a night receptionist, a bar manager, a cocktail bartender, a cruise ship bar tender, a magazine subscription call center operative, a data entry consultant, a cashier for Natwest, a cashier for Barclays (after being let go by Natwest), an English teacher, and a web designer.
