Janine CarranzaJanine was born and grew up in Mexico City in 1960. She moved to Vermont from 1973 to 2014, with intermittent periods in Mexico working alongside her father, Rey Carranza. She graduated from Vermont College Nursing School of Norwich University in Monpelier, Vermont in 1992. She learned to write at The Mountain School in Vermont and Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. She now works with Lumina Hospice and lives in Oregon, closer to her roots from Taxco, Guerrero and Santa Lucia de La Sierra, Jalisco. In September 2017, Janine won the state hospice Nurse of the Year award in Oregon. Janine's best friend and brother Todd Carranza, MD, lives in Rhode Island. Kate, the oldest daughter, is working on her Master's degree in counseling. Samantha is a nursing assistant and a wonderful mother of two children, Devon and Aaliyah. Anya, the youngest, is an artist and interior architect, specializing in adaptive reuse architecture. Dylan is her fiance, soon to be her husband.
