Jason VarnerDr. Jason Varner is an Associate Professor of the History of Christianity at Anderson University's School of Theology and Christian Ministry. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in history and theological studies from Anderson University beore pursuing advanced studies at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where he completed an MLitt and PhD in Early Modern and Modern History. His doctoral research explored European religious communities' encounters with Native Americans in early modern America, focusing on cosmology's role in shaping these interactions.Dr. Varner teaches courses in the History of Christianity, Intellectual History, American History, and Biblical Studies. His research interests include seventeenth-century European-Native American encounters, the evolving concept of self in modernity, and the early Church of God movement. He has presented his work internationally, including a paper on liminality and identity in seventeenth-century New England at the University of Poitiers, France, in 2021.Beyond academia, Dr. Varner serves as director of Anderson University's Peace and Conflict Transformation program.
