Jim Downey

Jim DowneyWhat's your memory of history? Serving as a soldier, or being caught up as a civilian, during the turbulent times of WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam, left indelible impressions on those who fought and suffered through those events. As the survivorswho endured those wars gradually pass away with advancing age, their stories, struggles and triumphs are forever lost to us. Author, speaker and historian James Downey set out to preserve some of the rapidly-vanishing valor and courage exemplified by the veterans who sacrificed to preserve our freedom, as well as civilians who endured to triumph over the brutality of war. His third book, BROTHERS IN ARMS, brings together eight different stories from Army, Navy and Air Force veterans, and civilians as well, spanning our last three major wars, that capture the best of the human spirit and the incalculable cost of our freedom. James received a B.S. Degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1969. He deployed to Germany in the U.S. Army, serving at Central Army Group (HQ CENTAG) NATO, and subsequently received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law where he served as Assistant Editor of the law school magazine, THE NEBRASKA TRANSCRIPT, authoring articles for the publication. A thirty-year career practicing law in Colorado followed graduation, involving multiple and diverse areas of practice including litigation, transactional work, appellate court appearances, and service on legislative committees. Travel to far flung destinations such as Fiji, Hawaii, Alaska, Belize, Mexico, France, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Russia, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey and Hungary, fostered an understanding and appreciation of our uniquely-American freedom, opportunity, and prosperity. In particular, a visit to the Berlin Wall and a foray into the underbelly of Russia well off the beaten path underscored the oppression and hopelessness that people suffer under Communist regimes. A recent trip to Israel, Jordan and Egypt reinforced the reality that we should never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy every day which were paid for with the lives and blood of the many veterans who have gone before us. Before writing BROTHERS IN ARMS, and after a twenty-year period of studying comparative religion, James published his first book, THE EVOLUTION OF JIHAD, under the pen name of H. Davidson, which explores how the search for the one true God of Abraham long ago evolved into the terrorism we face today. His second book, WHY? tackles the question of why the world is so full of suffering if there is a God who loves us. DYING TO LIVE explores what happens to us after our last breath on earth. CROSS ROADS takes a hard look at America's departure from its founding principles that has left us divided after almost three centuries of cohesion and success. All of his books are available at Amazon. In addition to travel, the author enjoys motorcycling and scuba diving with his wife. Read More Read Less
