Joe Bastardi

Joe BastardiJoe Bastardi has been in love with the weather since his first memory and is now one of the most experienced operational forecasters in the world with 45 years of experience and no plans to slow down. He is the son of a degreed meteorologist, MatthewBastardi (Texas A&M University, 1965), and his son Garrett loves the weather and hopes to work in the field someday (once his golf career is over). Joe has been referred to as a pioneer in extreme weather and long-range forecasting and is often seen and heard on media sites when major storms or climate issues become noteworthy. He is the author of The Climate Chronicles: Inconvenient Revelations You Won't Hear From Al Gore - and Others. He graduated from Penn State University (PSU) in 1978, where he wrestled, and is the only known meteorologist since 1950 to letter Division 1 in wrestling. He still applies the work ethic taught to him by his parents and reinforced by his coaches to his job. At 65, he has no intention of slowing down. He has averaged over 3,000 hours a year of work since starting his first meteorological job in March of 1978. He resides in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, with his wife Jessica (PSU, 1988), who is a former captain of the PSU women's gymnastics team and has been an assistant coach for 20 years.
