He was immediately acclaimed as an outstandingly innovative writer of exceptional imaginative power, and this reputation wasconfirmed with the appearance of his subsequent works: The Aristos, The Magus, The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Ebony Tower, Daniel Martin, Mantissa, and A Maggot.
