John H MakinJohn H. Makin, a University of Chicago-trained economist, began his career after writing his dissertation on the risk involved in the composition of international reserve holdings. For the next decade, he held positions at several research universitis, including the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Virginia, and the University of British Columbia. During this time, he also held research appointments at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. In 1976, he moved to the University of Washington, and in 1978, he was named the director of the Institute for Economic Research there, a post he held for many years. He served as a consultant to the International Monetary Fund and the US Treasury and held a post as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
