The Boy With Only One Shoe is his illustrated social history autobiography, from his childhood growing up in Warrington in the 1920s through to enlisting at 18 and joining Bomber Command. John describes bautifully what it was like living through those wartime years and waking up on an operational base in 1945. You feel like you are there with him. The empty chairs and empty tables of colleagues who failed to return. His crew had several close calls but were one of the lucky ones to survive. As few now remain to recount this experience first hand he felt that this book needed to be written in remembrance and honour of those who didn't return.
