Karin AmatmoekrimKarin Amatmoekrim a Surinamese-Dutch writer and the author of five novels, a memoir and short stories. She broke through in 2011 with The Gymnasium, an autobiographical novel about a Surinamese girl attending a gymnasium (grammar school). Her work no includes six novels as well as numerous short stories, essays and journalistic pieces. The University of Amsterdam has studied Amatmoekrim’s work considering it the start of a new, Dutch literature: one that links to the idea of cosmopolitanism and explores new ways of thinking about home and identity.
