Kathy Allen Kathy Allen started quilting in 2006, a little over a year after she retired from pharmaceutical project management. Trained in cell biology and toxicology, Kathy's work required travel throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Even while in he scientific world, Kathy was always drawn to quilts and fabric arts during her business travels. She and her sister-in-law enrolled in a local beginner's quilting class, and from that moment on Kathy was hooked. What started out as a hobby has become her passion. When she isn't quilting, Kathy studies history, particularly California's gold rush history and the Kennedy Mine in particular. In 2008, she prepared the written history for the National Park System that put the Kennedy Mine on the Federal Register of Historic Places. Kathy and her husband, Frank Axe, have spent a lot of the last decade traveling to Europe and throughout North America to view the great architecture, visit friends, and study history. Ideas and inspiration for quilts come from these treks. Kathy and Frank live and work in Sutter Creek, California.
