Laura ArndtLaura Sanders Arndt is the creator of culturally-relevant purposeful STEM experiences, and the founder of Global GreenSTEM. She works with educators to design solutions-based STEM opportunities and curricula that inspire and empower learners of any clture and identity to be changemakers. A few of Laura's collaborations have been to develop and adapt Pacific-island-based STEM curriculum for Guam schools; co-develop a school's Indigenized STEAM curriculum and projects to amplify the voices of North American Indigenous students; and empower Bwindi Youth Guardians to design and carry out STEAM conservation projects to help solve problems in their communities near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.Laura has worked with several international mountain gorilla organizations since 1987 to create conservation education programs and action projects for Rwandan and Ugandan youth. The youth STEAM conservation projects were recently established in partnership with Ugandan-based Conservation Through Public Health. This book version of the Bwindi Cards is a part of that program.Laura's work is enriched by her sixteen years of experience teaching high school and elementary science and GreenSTEM in Colorado, as well as her numerous collaborations with local, national, and international organizations and agencies. Laura also designs and conducts professional learning for schools, districts, and organizations; speaks at conferences; and writes articles.Laura's life-long love and respect for the natural world and people of all cultures began as a child growing up with her adventurous nature- and travel-loving family in mid-Missouri (USA). She raised her two children, Erik and Cory, with husband-partner Roger in Colorado surrounded by a ponderosa pine forest on the ancestral homeland of the Ute, Cheyenne and Oceti Sakowin Nations.
