She met De'Ante's grandmother in 1964 at an American Friends Service Committee in Indiana and have remained friends ever since. As professional artist, she was inspired by the magic and heart of De'Ante's historical fiction story about Hurricane Katrina and hopes her illustrations have done justice to the tale.
