He is the author of The Translator's Invisibility: A History of Translation (2nd ed., 2008) and The Scandals of Translation: Towards an Ethics of Difference (1998) and the editor of The Translation Studies Reader (2nd ed., 2004).In 2007 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship.His translation of Ernest Farrés's Edward Hopper was awarded the 2008 Robert Fagles Translation Prize.
