In addition to managing a large janitoial service in the state of Indiana (at twenty-two years old), he worked for the federal government, the St. Louis City Police Department, the Potter Electric and Wagner Electric companies and, most enduring (thirty-four years), the St. Louis Public Schools system at the high school level. He also worked part-time in the urban GED program, drove a school bus for the Ferguson-Florissant School District, and drove a courtesy bus for Saint Louis County, accommodating senior citizens.
