Lynne Cox

Lynne Cox is an American long-distance open-water swimmer and writer. She has twice held the record for the fastest crossing of the English Channel, was the first woman to swim the Cook Strait in New Zealand, and was the first person to swi the Straits of Magellan and to swim around the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. She is also well known for swimming in the Bering Strait in 1987, from the island of Little Diomede in Alaska to Big Diomede, then part of the Soviet Union. Cox also swam more than one mile in the waters of Antarctica, and wrote Swimming in Antarctica about the experience. She has been inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame and lives in Los Alamitos, California.
