Lyudmyla SymochkoProf. (Dr.) Lyudmyla Symochko is an expert in environmental microbiology and ecology, specializing in microbial diversity, antibiotic resistance, and ecosystem health. She earned her PhD in Ecology in 2005 and later obtained a habilitation in biodivesity conservation from Uzhhorod National University, Ukraine. Her early research focused on microbial diversity in natural and anthropogenically altered ecosystems. Over the past decade, she has led pioneering studies on soil and water microbiota, with a particular emphasis on the environmental resistome and the role of ecosystems as reservoirs for antibiotic-resistant microorganisms. She currently serves as a Professor and Researcher at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Prof. Lyudmyla Symochko is at the forefront of detecting antibiotic-resistant opportunistic pathogens in the environment and assessing their risks to human health. Beyond her research, she is dedicated to advancing environmental education, promoting sustainability, and integrating artificial intelligence into educational methodologies. She has authored over 200 scientific publications, including five books, and has delivered more than 90 presentations at national and international conferences, including keynote lectures. An active contributor to the global scientific community, she serves as a guest editor for several international journals, shaping research discourse on microbial ecology, antibiotic resistance, and environmental sustainability. Lyudmyla Symochko is also a member of the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative, the Society for Microbial Ecology and Diseases, the Ukrainian Society for Microbiology, and the Belgian Society for Microbiology.
