Marci Vogel

A native of Los Angeles, Marci Vogel is currently a Provost's Fellow in the PhD Program in Creative Writing and Literature at the University of Southern California, where she teaches in the Honors Writing Program and served as poetry editor of theUSC-based Gold Line Press. Before entering USC in the Fall of 2012, she taught at a small elementary school for 22 years.

A long-time writer of prose, Vogel began writing poems in her forties and since then her work has earned nominations for the Rona Jaffe Writers' Award, the Best New Poets anthology, the AWP Intro Journals Project, and the Pushcart Prize. Vogel's translation from French into English of Andrée Chedid's 1956 poetry sequence, "In the Noon of Contradictions" was selected for the 2014 Willis Barnstone Translation Prize.

Vogel was awarded a 2013 fellowship to travel to Tours, France, where she was invited as a visiting poet to work with students at L'École des Beaux-Arts. She has also been invited to read at San Francisco's Conservatory of Flowers and at Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center in Los Angeles.

Vogel earned her MFA in the low-residency program at Ashland University, and her poetry, translations, essays, and reviews have been published in FIELD, Jacket2, Plume, Anamesa, Poet Lore, The Offending Adam, Puerto del Sol, ZYZZYVA, and the Seneca, Colorado, Manchester, and Atlas reviews, among others. She is the author of a chapbook, Valiant (Finishing Line Press). At the Border of Wilshire and Nobody is her first full-length poetry collection.
