He developed and directed the UCSF Center on Stress and Personality and the Program on Conscius and Unconscious Mental Processes of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He has received the NIMH Research Scientist Development Award and directed the NIMH Center for the Study of Neuroses at UCSF.
