Margot SmithMargot Smith was born in San Francisco and raised in Beverly Hills, attended USC and UCLA and then graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1965. She married at age 21 and had four children; divorced at age 33 in Hawaii and later worked there as a ocial worker. On moving to Berkeley in 1968 she raised her children, obtained a doctorate in Public Health from UCB, and married her second husband Robert Purdy. She then worked as a consultant to Stanford University, UC Davis and was employed in research by the California State Health Department. She retired in 1999, and continues political activism in Berkeley, CA.
