Marian Webb BettsMarian Webb Betts was born in Sudan, Africa, to British pioneer missionaries and spent her first thirteen years in what could only be called the back of beyond. With no radio, television, or easy contact with the outside world, her earliest entertainent came from her father's remarkable gift for storytelling. He told tales of his own adventures as well as imagined stories about the wildlife and the many tribes among whom they lived. Her father was an English professor and her mother a published poet, and together they taught their children proper Queen's English while daily life immersed them in French and Arabic as well. Growing up speaking, reading, and writing in three languages shaped Marian's lifelong love of words and stories.Today she owns and operates her own studio and publishing company, designing book jackets and illustrations for novels, articles, and technical papers - always returning, in one way or another, to the art of storytelling.
