Mathew P Morico

Mathew P MoricoMathew P. Morico is from Houston, Texas where he is currently a third-year medical student at the John P. and Katherine G. McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in 2019 where he grduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Science Preprofessional Studies and a supplemental major in Italian Studies. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society and the Gamma Kappa Alpha Italian Honor Society and has received numerous awards including the Lawrence H. Baldinger Award for excellence in the healing arts.

Mathew's love for medicine is largely a byproduct of his love for culture. Half-Indian and half-Italian, Mathew grew up fascinated by the way different cultures can impact one's health. As the recipient of two grants for international scholarship, Mathew lived in Italy every summer of his undergraduate career where he completed an apprenticeship in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Salvator Mundi International Hospital in Rome and developed his senior thesis entitled Depression: What the United States Can Learn from Italy. In addition, Mathew spent a month in Fort Kochi, Kerala, India where he conducted sensory therapy at a school for children with special needs. His fascination with cultural impacts on health led him to decide early on that he wants to incorporate global and public health into his medical practice.

Mathew did a Public Health Fellowship at the University of Notre Dame following the completion of his undergraduate degree. He organized and implemented public health initiatives on campus on topics including sleep, stress, alcohol use, exercise, nutrition, and mindfulness. That same year he founded a wellness brand called Eünoè that focuses on a holistic approach to improving one's mental and physical health. Currently, there are 35 wellness videos on YouTube.

Mathew's interest in wellness brought him great enthusiasm for the project: Smartphone Apps for Health and Wellness. As new ways to manage one's health become readily available, such as through the use of apps, Mathew loves to stay up to date and share these new methods with friends, family, and his future patients.

In his free time, Mathew loves to cook, travel, and spend time outdoors. He is an avid runner and recently completed his first marathon. It is Mathew's long-term plan to have a dual-medical practice in the U.S. and Italy, facilitating dialogue in global health and while emphasizing the importance of wellness in one's health journey.
