Wallig, DVM, Ph.D., DACVP, is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, as well as the Division of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Ilinois. His research has focused on the chemoprotective properties and mechanisms of phytochemicals in the diet, in particular those in cruciferous vegetables, soy, and tomatoes. His current interests have expanded to include defining morphologic parameters for diagnostic quantitative ultrasound in pancreatitis, pancreatic and hepatic neoplasia, metastatic disease, and chronic hepatic diseases such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
