Prior to returning to academia, he was Distinguished Fellow and Global Medical Director of the iabetes, Endocrine Platform Team, Eli Lilly and Company. Before that, he was Medical Director, Diabetes Disease Management (North America and Asia/Pacic), Beckton Dickinson and Company. Before his industrial career, he was Professor of Medicine & Biochemistry, and Head, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at his alma mater, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada.
