Michael CarverField Marshal Lord (Michael) Carver held important command and staff appointments, at home and abroad, as Chief of General Staff and, as Field Marshal from 1973, Chief of the Defence Staff. Author of fifteen books including The National Arm Museum Book of the Turkish Front and Britain's Army in the 20th Century, and editor of two others, he was created a life peer in 1977.
