Mohammad Naseem

Born on 1 December 1954 at Sardarnagar, Pilibhit, India, M. Naseem is a science graduate and Master of Law, with specialization in Mercantile Law from the Aligarh Muslim University. He is an Energy Law Expert and Additional Chief Legal Adviser of NGC Limited, which he joined in 1985. In his professional career spanning over twenty-eight years, he has dealt with a large number of high-value commercial contracts particularly in the energy sector involving arbitration, litigation and negotiation. He has been part of the negotiation teams for Indian acreages put for exploration and development bidding pre-and post-New Exploration Licensing Policy in the oil and gas sector. Mr Naseem has extensively dealt with the process of due diligence and negotiation of all types of acquisition contracts in different parts of the world, such as Myanmar, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Sakhalin in Russia, Turkeministan, and Venezuela. He is the author of a monograph on the Environmental Law of India for Kluwer Law International and has a number of papers to his credit, published in reputed national and international journals. He is Visiting Faculty and guest expert speaker of the Indian Academy of International Law and Diplomacy; India International Centre for Alternate Dispute Resolution; University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun; and Indian School of Petroleum. He is Secretary of the Working Group on Oil and Gas of the India International Law Foundation and member of the India International Centre for Alternate Dispute Resolution and Indian Society of International Law. He has travelled extensively throughout the world and visited more than thirty countries in relation to negotiation and delivering lectures on diverse topics, including oil and gas. He has spoken in seminars organized by IBC Asia Limited at Singapore and by OIPF Iran in Tehran on Financing in the Oil and Gas Sector, and he conducted training programmes for Oil and Gas IQPC in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. With more than twenty-five years of varied practical experience in negotiation, drafting, interpretation and vetting of legal documents and dealing with arbitration and litigation in the energy sector, Mr Naseem has been part of an exclusive team of trainers, negotiators and advisers and is a legal luminary of international repute in his own right.
