Nancy Prince

Nancy Prince (17991856) was an African American writer and businesswoman born in New England. She had a tumultuous upbringing marked by her father's untimely death and mother's multiple marriages. She helped to support her family by workingodd jobs including selling berries. As a young woman, Prince met and married a man whose career took her to many foreign lands. Their travels provided unique experiences that were thoroughly documented in the book, A Narrative of the Life and Travels of Mrs. Nancy Prince.
