Nathan Batson

Nathan BatsonRenshi Nathan Batson, a senior Karate Instructor and owner of the Tyler Karate Academy, brings over 40 years of martial arts expertise to his work. His journey began in 1986 with Isshin Ryu karate, igniting a lifelong passion for self-discipline, sel-defense, and personal growth. Over decades, he has studied a diverse array of styles, enriching his teaching and practice. In Matsumura Orthodox Karate, under the tutelage of John Shipes (Kudan, Hanshi), Isao Kise (Judan, Hanshi), and Kise Fusei (Judan, Hanshi-sei), Renshi Batson earned the rank of Rokudan (6th degree) and the title of Renshi, deepening his understanding of this classical Okinawan style. His Kenshinkan Kobudo training, also at Rokudan, integrates traditional Okinawan weapons, enhancing his holistic approach to physical conditioning, mental discipline, and practical self-defense. In Kenshinkan Tuite-jitsu, where he holds Godan (5th degree), he explores pressure points and joint manipulation, adding a tactical self-defense dimension beyond strikes and kicks.Renshi Batson's martial repertoire extends to Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido, where he holds a 1st-degree black belt, mastering the katana with precise, fluid techniques that embody the samurai spirit and philosophy. Additionally, in Garimot Arnis, awarded the rank of Gat Guro and the name "Putakti" (Hornet) by Gat Puno Abundio "Garimot" Baet, he excels in the dynamic Filipino system of sticks, blades, and empty-hand techniques, emphasizing versatility and practical application.Beyond personal mastery, Renshi Batson founded the Tyler Kenshinkan Karate Academy in 2007, sharing his knowledge with students of all ages. As a certified Police Self-Defense Instructor and Emergency First Responder, he prioritizes safety and well-being in his curriculum. His training spans renowned instructors, including John Ray (Kudan, Hanshi), Guro Ray Parra (Tuhon, Pekiti Tirsia and Jeet Kune Do), Relson Gracie (Kudan, Grandmaster, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), and Hiroshi Tanida (Judan, Hanshi, Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido), alongside explorations in classical fencing, Da-No-Shin Jiu-jitsu, Yawara Judo, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Kali, Jeet Kune Do, and Silat. For Nathan, martial arts transcend rank, focusing on continuous learning, boundary-pushing, and community-building values that he instills in his students.
