Her inspiration to write this book came from the lack of diversity among teachers in the schools that she attended. Her inspiration also stemmed from her observations on the relationships that she was not always able to form with her teachers during her primary, secondary and college years of schooling. This book was also published to help frame dialog among teachers, parents and students. This book will also allow students to see themselves reflected in the classroom though pictures, conversations, positive interactions, positive reinforcements and positive teacher engagements. Nattily wants teachers to know that this books highlights some of the ways we can communicate with students because we live in a diverse world and students are from all walks of life, therefore this book can help teachers to engage in meaningful conversations so that teachers can get to know their students better. The hope is that educators around the world will incorporate ethnic studies into their teaching curriculum because it will raise an awareness to help teachers build interactions with immigrant students and all students in general. This book will invite teachers to think of who students are and not who they may perceive them to be. Read More Read Less
