Oiva Herbert LindquistOiva Herbert (Herb) Lindquist grew up in the woods and lakes of northern Minnesota where he fished, explored, and enjoyed academics and athletics. After serving in the Army and as a naval cadet during World War II, Herb earned a bachelor's degree in hysics at Iowa State University where he met and married his late wife, Ilene. When Ilene contracted polio, Herb left teaching at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he founded the physics department, and began his 32-year career at Honeywell, Inc. With a masters degree in biophysics from the University of Minnesota, Herb became the space engineering manager at Honeywell and the section head of the systems group that analyzed, designed, and released specifications for construction of equipment used on all Apollo spacecraft flights.
