Raised in the shadow of Grandfather Mountain in Lenoir, North Carolina, she developed an early love of the outdoors that continues to inform her witing.Along with her husband, she volunteered for many years with The Nature Conservancy, serving on the Speakers Bureau and working at preserves across the United States.
