Paula NevespaulA neves, a Newark, New Jersey-born Luso-American poet, cross-disciplinary artist and educator, is the author and co-author, respectively, of the chapbooks capricornucopia: the dream of the goats (Finishing Line Press 2018) and Shirts & Skins (Shie Portrait Studio Press 2017), and has also published work in various journals and anthologies. paulA is the co-founder of Parkway North Productions, which produced the award-winning film The Remedy (2021), a documentary about two New Jersey-based hip hop artists/musicians that has screened at numerous U.S. and international film festivals. paulA's visual art has appeared in exhibits at The Newark Museum, the Newark Arts Festival, Rutgers University, and elsewhere. paulA received a 2024 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Other honors include the 2020 NJ Poets Prize from the Journal of NJ Poets, and fellowships from the City of Newark, the New York Foundation for the Arts Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program, and CantoMundo. paulA received an MFA in poetry from Rutgers-Newark and, when not poeting or artmaking, can be found on that campus and elsewhere teaching English Composition and other courses.
