Peter Jay
Peter Jay, born in 1945, studied Classics and English at Lincoln College, Oxford and founded Anvil Press Poetry as a specialist poetry publisher in 1968. Based in Greenwich, south-east London (where he still lives), it ran until 216. He received the Newdigate Prize for Poetry in 1965 and a Rockefeller Foundation grant in 1968. He was Assistant Director for the London Poetry International Festivals from 1969–73. He was a member of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 1975 and Visiting Lecturer in the Department of English at Iowa in 1980 and 1982, where he ran the Translation Workshop.
