Peter Thomson
Peter Thomson is a 5th generation Fijian, and since 2017 has been the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for the Ocean. Previously he was Fiji's permanent representative at the UN and has also served as President of the Internatonal Seabed Authority. He left Fiji after a military coup in 1987, surrendering his citizenship, but returned in 2009 and regained his citizenship. He has long been a campaigner for oceanic conservation and was among those involved in creating the UN's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14, in 2017, for the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans and seas. He currently resides in Australia.
