He was editor of the innovative Rockbooks series (1971-2) and co-editor of one of the first significant reference books, the three-volume Granada Encyclopaedia of Rck (1976). He is the founder of Music & Copyright (1992), generally accepted as the most authoritative and objective source of information about the international music business. He remains its editor. His film books include Sam Fuller (1972) and Raoul Walsh (1974). He is also the editor and main contributor to the Aurum Film Encyclopaedias.
