Phillip LiebermanPhil Lieberman is Professor of Jewish Studies, Professor and Chair of Classical and Mediterranean Studies, and Professor of Law, at Vanderbilt University. He is currently on military leave serving the Department of History at the United States Naval cademy. Phil is an economic, social, and legal historian of the Jews of the medieval Islamic world. His (Stanford University Press, 2014) was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award. His most recent monograph is (Cambridge University Press, 2022). He served as a section editor for the award-winning (Brill, 2010) and (Cambridge University Press, 2021). His translation with Lenn Goodman of Vanderbilt University’s Philosophy Department of Moses Maimonides’ philosophical classic was published by Stanford University Press in 2024. He is currently working on a monograph about commercial manuals. Phil holds a PhD from Princeton University, a LLM in US Law from George Mason University, a MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics, a MA in Talmud and Rabbinics from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a BA with distinction in Economics from the University of Washington.
