R.J. MitchellRichard Mitchell gained an MSc in Computer Science in 1979 and in the same year joined the staff of The Hatfield Polytechnic, where he is now a Principal Lecturer in Computer Science. In 1982 he became a member of the Technical Commitee on Application Oriented Specifications of the European Workshop on Industrial Computer Systems (EWICS) and in 1983 was elected Chairman, in which capacity he serves on the organising committee of the EWICS European Seminars on Industrial Software Technology. The papers in this book are selected from those presented at recent EWICS Seminars. His research and teaching interests are in software technology, with a particular interest in literate programming. He has published a number of papers on various aspects of software technology and is currently working on an ESPRIT project concerned with the application of abstract data types to the development of distributed systems.
