Rachael BallRachael Ball has been a cartoonist/ illustrator since 1988 and an Art teacher since 2001. She started producing regular strips for cult comic ‘Deadline’ in 1988. Her first graphic novel, ‘The Inflatable Woman’ (Bloomsbury), was one of the Guardian’s est Graphic Novels 2015 and was shortlisted for ‘The British Book Design and Production Award’ 2016. Her work has featured in the HOI’s ‘Comixatrix’ exhibition and in the Cartoon Museum’s ‘The Inking Woman’ exhibition. She has also had a solo exhibition of Wolf at the Cartoon Museum in 2018. Her second graphic novel, WOLF published by SelfMadeHero in 2018. The story is based on the death of her father as a child and will be published by French publisher Presque Lune in October 2020. She has received funding from the Arts Council and the Society of Authors and is currently working on her third graphic novel ‘The Patsy Papers’ which is based on her experiences of teaching in secondary schools. This novel is a political satire/emotional thriller spotlighting the effect of Tory austerity and poor management on British schools. She teaches How to create children’s books and graphic novel courses at the House of Illustration, the Cartoon Museum, and The Art Academy and is a London coordinator for Laydeez Do Comics (a female-led organization that supports female cartoonists in publishing.)
