Richard O HansonDr. Hanson is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA); a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE); a Certified Management Accountant (CMA); and a Certified Financial Manager (CFM). He is currently Professor of Accounting and Taxation at Southern New Hampshire Univrsity, where he teaches primarily in the MS in Accounting Program. He is also currently the Executive Director of the Institute for Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination, which he established at Southern New Hampshire University in 2003. He owns a consulting firm that specializes in fraud education and detection for small businesses. Dr. Hanson has held such positions in private industry as controller and chief financial Officer, in addition to owning a CPA/Management Consulting firm in Concord, New Hampshire for approximately 18 years. He started a career in accounting in 1968, and received all of his education after his associate's degree at nighttime or on weekends. Dr. Hanson served (2006-2007) as the Chairman of the New Hampshire Board of Accountancy and has served on the Board since his appointment by the Governor of New Hampshire in 2003. He is also a member of the New Hampshire Society of Certified Public Accountants; the American Institute of the Certified Public Accountants; the Institute of Management Accountants; the American Accounting Association; the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners; and the American College of Forensic Examiners. He served (2004-2006) as a member of the Examination Committee of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), and is currently (2008-2009) serving as a member of the CPA Licensing Examination Committee (CLEC) of NASBA. Dr. Hanson enjoys teaching in the controllership, financial reporting, seminar in accounting topics, managerial accounting, and forensic accounting areas. His current research interests include fraud detection, bankruptcy prediction, money laundering, forensic accounting, controllership techniques, and financial reporting. Dr. Hanson has given many seminars and presentations on fraud and business ethics, and continuously informs and educates business people on how to become more proactive to combat fraud in small businesses.
