Rita FuchsbergMy art is spontaneous and mixed media/acrylic on canvas is my preferred medium. The pieces begin with two flat layers of white gesso and a third layer applied as one would ice a cake. The surface, when dry, has valleys and uneven plains and forms thefoundation from which the work will take on a life of its own and accidents are part of the process. A piece can appear to represent one image and then flip into another. The interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. My heritage informs my imagery. I paint because of an inner necessity to do so. Several of my works have been exhibited throughout the United States and are part of collections in Africa, Australia and France. My time is divided between a studio in what my mother calls a one-horse town in Vermont, and my hometown, New York City. I live with my shih-tzu, Coco. Read More Read Less
