Rosemary Dundas PattonRosemary Dundas Patton was born in 1933 in the southern Cotswolds h of England, second of five children of Vice Admiral John G.L. Dundas and Ruth Coleman of Minneapolis. At the age of eight, after her family moved to Scotland, Rosemary vowed to becom a writer. At twelve, she and her three sisters, one brother, and parents moved to North Carolina. She received a BA in English from Duke University. After settling in California with her pediatrician husband, Gray, and their three daughters, she received an MA from San Francisco State, where she taught writing in the English Department for fourteen years.
