After publishing 'Lights and Pigments: Colour Principles for Artists' (1980), he became a prominent colour theorist, contributing to a dozen books on the subject and lecturing and teaching atover 215 institutions worldwide. His subsequent publications include 'Renaissance Colour Symbolism: Primary Sources' and 'The Color Coursebook for Art Teachers and Students'.
