Stephen Goldstein
The late Stephen Goldstein was the emeritus Edward S. Silver Professor of Civil Procedure at the Faculty of Law of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Prior to his retirement in 2004, he served as the active Edward S. Silver Professor of Ciil Procedure since he joined the Hebrew University Law Faculty in 1976. During part of this period, he also served as Dean of the Faculty (1987-1990) and as Director of the Harry and Michael Sacker Institute for Legislative Research and Comparative Law (1984-1987). Prior to his moving to Israel in 1976, he served as Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School (USA) from 1966-1976.
Prof. Goldstein has also been a Visiting Professor at a number of other law faculties, including the University of California at Berkeley; Cambridge University, Tulane Law School, the University of Hong Kong, Oxford University, Chuo University, Japan, and Cornell University, USA.
He has also served as a Judge on the Israeli Uniform Contracts Tribunal.
He was active in a large number of professional associations including the American Law Institute, the International Association of Procedural Law and the International Academy of Comparative Law.
Prof. Goldstein authored numerous works on Israeli and comparative civil procedure and was one of Israel's leading scholars on civil procedure.
