He also published the collection That Was Weird: Three Short Stories (2024).Steve is also an accomplished, early-career screenwriter. His short screenplay, "Cure for Creativity," won Best Short Screenplay at the Bloody Mirror Film Festival in 2024 and was an official selection or finalist at festivals including Oregon Screams and the Chicago Horror Film Festival. His latest work, "Submission," is currently touring the festival circuit, where it has received selections, placed as a semi-finalist at HorrorFest International, and was a quarter-finalist at the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival.His award-winning nonfiction includes the Bronze Quill-winning essay "Teachers Need Guidance Re: Book Bans in Utah" (Salt Lake Tribune, 2024), movie and book reviews, and his Education Week Magazine article, "Dos and Don'ts of Hybrid Teaching" (2021).
