Steven Robert HeineAuthor Steven Robert Heine grew up in Salem only two miles from the fair. After graduating from Portland State University, he returned to Salem and began publishing poetry books. For four years, he pitched his books on the midway of the Oregon State air, and his efforts made him one of the most widely read poets in Oregon. In 1988, he returned as the fair's poetry director.
