Tammy Rush

Tammy RushTamara N. Rush, MSN, RN, C-NPT, EMT, widely known as Tammy, is an accomplished nursing professional with an extensive career spanning over four decades. Tammy holds a Master of Science in Nursing from East Carolina University, earned in 2013. Her impessive career is marked by 42 years of dedicated service in pediatric and neonatal critical care nursing, with a particular focus on critical care transport management.

Tammy's commitment to excellence is evidenced by her recognition as a 2016 Nursing Excellence Award recipient from Wake Forest Baptist Health and as one of the Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina the same year.

Tammy has significantly contributed to the field of science through various publications and presentations, including:

  • Contributing Author to "Patient Transport – Principles & Practice," 2018, Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association.
  • Contributor of "The Pressure Is On: Endotracheal Tube Cuff Pressure in the Pediatric Trauma Bay," at the 2016 Pediatric Trauma Society National Conference.
  • Leader of the Prehospital Hypoglycemic Seizure QI project for NC EMS for Children.
  • Lead for the Pediatric Airway Project for NC EMS for Children.
  • Contributing Author to "Merenstein and Gardner’s Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care."
  • Contributor of "Practical Use of Near Infrared Spectroscopy in a Pediatric Transport Population" at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference.
  • Contributor of "The Use of a Process Improvement Methodology to Decrease the Response Times and Cycle Times of a Neonatal/Pediatric Subspecialty Transport Team" at the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • Co-author of "Evaluation of an Evidence-Based Guideline to Reduce CT Use in the Assessment of Blunt Pediatric Abdominal Trauma" in the Journal of Pediatric Surgery.
  • Contributor to the "AWHONN: Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing, 7e."
Additional Information: Tammy serves as the editor for the Section on Transport Medicine Newsletter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and acts as the liaison from the National Association of Neonatal Nurses to the American Academy of Pediatrics – Section on Transport Medicine (SOTM). She is also an Executive Board Member of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).

Tammy is affiliated with several prestigious organizations, including the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, and the Pediatric Trauma Society. She holds a national certification in neonatal/pediatric transport and is a member of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. Additionally, she has served as a former International Trauma Life Support Instructor and a former member of the North Carolina EMS Advisory Council for Children.

Beyond her professional achievements, Tammy enjoys volunteering at her grandchildren's school events and working on her small farm. She also loves traveling across the United States in a motorhome with her husband, exploring new places and creating wonderful memories.
